Cultivation Through the Years
1862: Julius Alberto Trescony purchased Rancho San Lucas in Southern Monterey County. For many years, the land was planted to wheat, alfalfa, and barley for malt.
1965: The property was planted to row crops, many of which are farmed throughout the Salinas Valley today. Sugar beets were the largest and most lucrative crop; broccoli, canning tomatoes, onions, garlic and carrots also proved to be successful.
1980-81: Paul Toeppen, Phil Johnson and Butch Lindley purchased the property from Trescony, and planted the entire vineyard with site-specific varieties
1989: The first vintage of Lockwood Vineyard wine is released.
