| After pioneering a unique style
of Sauvignon Blanc in the market for many years, Lockwood
Vineyard has decided to radically retool their Sauvignon Blanc
program.
Our original Sauvignon Blanc followed a model of Sauvignon
Blanc from the Graves Region of Bordeaux, France. While we
did not intend to closely copy the French, our previous use
of French Oak barrels in fermentation and aging gave the Sauvignon
Blanc a French character. We had a loyal following for this
wine for many years, but this core group was getting smaller
and the market was moving in an alternative direction.
With the arrival of Larry Gomez as Winemaker in 2004, we took
the opportunity to completely change our direction. Starting
in the vineyard and throughout harvest, fermentation, and
aging; we focused on the purity and fruit of the wine.
Good grapes make good wine and we saw no need to add oak to
change the flavor. Instead we chose to highlight the excellent,
fresh flavor of the grapes grown in our “Shaly Loam”
soil. In keeping with the purity of freshness of this wine,
we decided for the first time to use a Stelvin closure “screw
top”. This wine was bottled March 28th, 2005 and is
part of the resurgence at Lockwood Vineydd.
